Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA)

ICMP supports all efforts by ACTA to protect intellectual property rights in both physical and online environments. In particular we subscribe to the goal of promoting stronger international cooperation which is an essential feature of any effective effort against counterfeiting and piracy.

The adoption of the ACTA Agreement marks the launch of an evolving partnership among all countries that recognise the importance of strong intellectual property protection in developing the creative and innovative sectors of their economies, creating good jobs, increasing cultural diversity, promoting technological advances, enhancing the rule of law, and boosting legal trade in products and services protected by intellectual property laws.

ICMP welcomes the Commission moving forward on the adoption of the Agreement and supports its decision to expeditiously refer the text to the Court of Justice of the European Union, which will help build confidence in the treaty. We look forward to the adoption of the Agreement by all the EU countries as well as its approval by the European Parliament. ICMP Member Organisations are working with their governments to advance the ACTA framework goals.
