ICMP comments on YouTube paying out $1bn in ad revenue to music industry
YouTube says it has paid out over $1 billion to the music industry from advertising alone over the past 12 months.
Commenting, ICMP Director General Coco Carmona said: "$1bn is a drop in the ocean compared to the hundreds of billions of songs consumed through online platforms like YouTube each year. Revenues for the creators of these songs are meagre. This gigantic value gap is wreaking havoc with their livelihoods and has to stop."
